Walmart and SunPower Announce Solar Power Agreement

LCG, October 25, 2018--Walmart announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with SunPower to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at 19 stores and two distribution centers in Illinois. The agreement supports Walmart's goal of supplying its global operations with 50 percent renewable energy by 2025.

Walmart's vice president of energy stated, "Solar is a vital component of Walmart's expanding renewable energy portfolio. Walmart plans to tirelessly pursue renewable energy projects that are right for our customers, our business and the environment. These planned projects with SunPower are moving us in the right direction toward our renewable energy goals."

As a result of the agreement, a mix of rooftop and ground-mount solar systems are expected to be installed and will together account for 23 MW of solar electric generation capacity. Construction is planned to commence in the first half of 2019.

Walmart is financing the solar projects through a power purchase agreement (PPA) arranged by SunPower. Walmart will own the renewable energy credits (RECs) associated with the installations.
