Invenergy's Lackawanna Energy Center Starts Commercial Operations

LCG, January 16, 2019--Invenergy announced yesterday that commercial operations began at the 1,485-MW Lackawanna Energy Center, located near Scranton, Pennsylvania, where it delivers power into the PJM Interconnection system. Construction began in March 2016.

The Lackawanna Energy Center is a natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant that includes three General Electric (GE) 7HA.02 air-cooled, combustion turbines; three heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with integrated duct burners; and a steam turbine.

The highly efficient H Class units are expected to provide operational flexibility that allows the facility to generate baseload power, as well as to respond rapidly to variations in energy demand, complementing the continued growth of intermittent renewable resources in PJM.

Invenergy partnered with Kiewit Power Constructors on facility construction.

The CEO of Invenergy stated, "We are tremendously proud to go online with the Lackawanna Energy Center, the largest and most technically sophisticated power plant Invenergy has ever developed, built and operated. This milestone is an incredible achievement for our team and project partners, who have delivered on our commitment to generate clean power, good jobs, and local community investment through this project."
