MHPS to Supply Three J Class Turbines for Power Project in Virginia
LCG, February 8, 2019--Balico, LLC and Gemma Power Systems selected Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPS) and its J Class turbines for the 1,600-MW Chickahominy Power Station project in Virginia. The combined cycle power plant will deliver power into the PJM regional transmission grid and is scheduled for completion in 2022.
The Chickahominy Power Station design calls for three, 1x1 M501JAC powertrains. The M501JAC turbine uses air-cooled condensers to reduce water usage for cooling, which is important to the region surrounding the plant's location. The energy facility will use natural gas from the Marcellus shale formation.
"We appreciate the collaborative approach MHPS takes and their commitment to execution," said the CEO of Gemma Power Systems. "MHPS continues to be on the cutting edge of combined cycle technology and this facility will highlight their latest offerings for the single shaft arrangement."
The President and CEO of MHPS Americas stated, "We're happy to be selected by Chickahominy Power and their parent, Balico, to bring reliable and low carbon electricity to the residents of Virginia. Generators today want to satisfy electricity demand while reducing carbon footprint and they are selecting our Advanced Class Gas Turbines to bring a Change in Power."
Gemma Power Systems and Chickahominy Power, LLC, a subsidiary of Balico, LLC, announced last June that they had entered into an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services contract to construct the Chickahominy Power Station.
