The Order, signed last week, includes interim GHG goals to reduce GHG emissions by 26-28% of 2005 levels by 2025, and by 40-50% of 2005 levels by 2030.

The Order directs the creation of a Climate Initiatives Task Force to investigate and make recommendations to reduce GHSs originating in Louisiana to the Governor. The Task Force, to be comprised of up to 23 members representing various government agencies and stakeholders, is to deliver an interim report recommending strategies, policies and incentives by February 1, 2021. The Task Force is to submit a subsequent report that includes a detailed plan to meet the goals by February 1, 2022.

The Task Force will include committees for power generation, distribution and use; land use, buildings and housing; transportation; agriculture, forestry, conservation and waste management; manufacturing and industry; and mining and oil and gas production.
