Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions Announces 207-MW Ledyard Windpower Project in Iowa
LCG, September 23, 2021--Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, a nonregulated commercial brand of Duke Energy, earlier this week announced the construction of the 207-MW Ledyard Windpower project in Kossuth County, Iowa. Verizon Communications entered into a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for 180 MW of the wind energy for 15 years to meet its net-zero goals.
The Ledyard Windpower project will be Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions’ first renewable energy project in the state. Construction on the project, which includes 46 Vestas V150 4.5-MW turbines, began last month. The project is scheduled to be complete at the end of 2022.
The project was co-developed by Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions and Amshore Renewable Energy, and Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions will perform long-term maintenance and operations at the site.
The president of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions stated, “We’re excited to enter into the Iowa market, a state that has valuable wind resources and is ranked second in wind energy generation. Ledyard Windpower will not only add cleaner energy and economic value to Kossuth County, but it will also contribute to Duke Energy’s goal of reaching 47,000 MW of renewable energy by 2050.”
Project completion will increase the Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions’ U.S. wind capacity to over 3,100 MW. The company’s total electric capacity today is over 5,100 MW of nonregulated renewable energy.
