ERCOT Summer 2026: What’s Driving the Next Wave of Market Risk?

LCG, May 27, 2026--ERCOT enters Summer 2026 with healthy near-term reserve margins, but rapidly growing data center demand, persistent West Texas congestion, and the rollout of RTC+B are reshaping market dynamics faster than ever.

Developed using the UPLAN Network Power Model®, LCG Consulting’s Summer 2026 ERCOT Outlook presents the future operation of the ERCOT nodal market, including Locational Marginal Prices (LMPs), load zone prices, hub prices, and expected congestion patterns, while also addressing the challenges of intermittency and transmission capacity.

We project the August system lambda around $51/MWh in the base case, materially above recent summers, with higher volatility concentrated in evening net-load hours.
