We Energies and Oracle Announce New Agreement for Point Beach Nuclear Plant to Power Project Lighthouse

LCG, October 2, 2026--We Energies, a subsidiary of Milwaukee-based WEC Energy Group, and Oracle today announced an agreement that would allow Oracle to "subscribe" to between 10 percent and 20 percent of the Point Beach Nuclear Plant’s electricity generation. Oracle will provide the carbon-free energy to Project Lighthouse, the data center campus in Port Washington that Oracle is co-developing with artificial intelligence firm OpenAI.

Oracle's commitment to subscribe to a portion of the existing, 1,200-MW Point Beach Nuclear Plant is expected to save Wisconsin utility customers approximately $300 million in fuel costs. Oracle's planned subscription to a portion of the Point Beach purchase power arrangement remains subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's executive vice president stated, "Oracle is stepping up with a commitment that will directly benefit more than 1 million Wisconsin utility customers. By absorbing approximately $300 million in rising energy costs, we are helping protect Wisconsin ratepayers while supporting the reliable, carbon-free power the state depends on. This is a meaningful investment in Wisconsin's future—and in the communities we are proud to serve."

We Energies owned Point Beach Nuclear Plant, located in Manitowoc County, until 2007, when it sold the facility to NextEra Energy. We Energies continued purchasing most of the plant’s electricity output, and the current purchase agreement expires in 2033. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has since approved the subsequent license renewal for the plant's two Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) to continue operating for another 20 years, and We Energies recently agreed to continue buying roughly 86 percent of the plant’s electricity for another 20-year term.
