LCG, July 28, 2000----Dynegy Inc. said yesterday has started full-scale operations at the Rockingham Power Plant, a simple-cycle generating facility in Rockingham County, N.C. The company said that Rockingham, at 800 megawatts, is the largest facility in its generation development program.Duke Power, a unit of Duke Energy Corp., has contracted for 600 megawatts of the plants output for three and one-half years beginning this month. The remaining capacity will be marketed by Dynegy Marketing and Trade in the wholesale electricity market to investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives and municipalities throughout the Southeast and other regions of the country."As one of the first new generation projects completed in the state of North Carolina, this facility will enhance electric service reliability in a region experiencing rapid growth," said Steve Bergstrom, president and chief operating officer of Dynegy Inc. "The Rockingham Power Plant is one of several development projects, acquisitions and existing facility expansions that Dynegy will undertake in the Southeast as the company continues to expand its generation portfolio to respond to regional demand growth."The plant is located on a 69-acre site near Bethany, N.C. The power plant consists of five dual fuel-fired combustion turbines fed by natural gas through a pipeline interconnect with Williams. Dynegy signed a long-term natural gas interconnection agreement with Williams in July 1999 to provide capacity for up to 222 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. Transmission access for power transactions is delivered via a 230-kilovolt Duke Energy transmission line interconnect near the plant.
