SPP's Western Expansion Set for Implementation on April 1

LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

Entergy Estimates Customer Savings of $5B from "Fair Share Plus" Data Center Agreements

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

Panda Plans 1,070 Megawatt Illinois Merchant Plant

LCG, Sept. 14, 2000Panda Energy International Inc. said yesterday it would build a 1,070 megawatt merchant power plant on the outskirts of Mount Vernon, Ill., about midway between St. Louis and Evansville, Ind. on I-64.

Construction on the $350 million natural gas-fired, combined-cycle facility is scheduled to begin in early 2002 with commercial operation beginning in late 2003. Panda will sell the plant's output in the wholesale market through an interconnection with a Mount Vernon substation.

Illinois Gov. George Ryan welcomed the plant, noting there is an increased demand for energy. "Iwelcome Panda Energy's contribution to our state's growth and development," Ryan said. "Inaddition, this plant will provide a much needed tax base that will help improve facilities for the localschool district."

The plant will add several million dollars in taxes to the community and will make $3 million to $5million in local purchases each year it is in operation, according to Garry Hubbard, a Panda senior vice president.

Hubbard said about 500 jobs and an estimated payroll of $50 million will be created during an 18-month construction period. Once the plant is operational, 46 full-time jobs will open with an annual payroll of $2 million to $3 million. In addition, 100 off-site support jobs will be created.
