LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Enron to Build 215 Megawatt Colorado Plant
LCG, Sept. 21, 2000A subsidiary of Enron Corp. will build a $100 million, 215 megawatt power plant south of Colorado Springs, Colo. to sell electricity to the former Public Service Co. of Colorado, which wants to add generating capacity around the state, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported this morning.Public Service Co. of Colorado is now Xcel Energy Inc., or a part thereof. It had become New Century Energies Inc. when it merged with Southwestern Public Service Co. Now that New Centuries has been folded into Northern States Power Co., it's Xcel. People in Colorado still think of it as Public Service Co.Earlier this year, the Denver office of Xcel estimated that Colorado would need enough power for another 1.6 million households, on top of the 2.5 million already served by Public Service Co. The company put out a request for proposals asking for bids on 1,500 megawatts of new generation.Enron North America Corp. successfully offered to build the four-turbine, 215 megawatt natural gas-fired plant near an existing substation six miles from Colorado Springs' municipal power plant, which is fueled by coal.Wilexco Inc., an Englewood, Colo. company, was another successful bidder, and plans to build an 83 megawatt power plant not far from the Enron facility, if it can get the necessary permits. Getting permits for the Wilexco plant may not be easy because the fuel will be tires, like those Firestones that Ford dealers are throwing away.Enron expects its plant to be operation by next June, according to Eric Thode, director of public relations for Enron North America. Output from the plant will be sold to Xcel on a 10-year contract, after which the facility could be run as a merchant plant if Colorado deregulates its electric industry and allows competition.The plant is not being built with that in mind, according to Thode. "This plant is being built for the deal as it currently exists. This deal makes sense because this deal makes sense, period."
