Calpine Unit Sells More Power to CP&L

LCG, Nov. 16, 2000--Calpine Corp.'s recently-acquired subsidiary SkyGen Energy said yesterday it had signed a long-term agreement to sell an additional 350 megawatts of electricity to CP&L Energy Inc., an affiliate of Carolina Power & Light Co.

The additional power will come from expansion of SkyGen's Broad River Energy Center in South Carolina, which already provides CP&L with 540 megawatts under an earlier deal.

Tom D. Kilgore, president of CP&L Energy Ventures, the company's non-regulated arm, said the addition of capacity from Broad River would bolster the company's asset base in a fast-growingregion.

"The additional capacity from Broad River, coupled with the extensive generation we're building inthe Carolinas and Georgia, will help us in continuing to meet our retail customers' needs, whileopening up new opportunities for us in the competitive wholesale markets," Kilgore said.

Calpine, based in San Jose, Calif., completed its acquisition of SkyGen earlier this month.
