LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

PPL Pitches in to Alleviate El Salvador Suffering
LCG, Jan 15, 2001--Saturday's 7.6-magnitude earthquake in El Salvador heavily impacted the electric distribution company Del Sur, owned by PPL Corp. of the U.S. The company said yesterday that its workers had restored power to much of its stricken service territory.Del Sur workers worked throughout the weekend and into yesterday not only repairing broken lines by digging families out of the rubble of their homes.The death toll from the quake had reached 600 this morning, but Del Sur said none of its 285 employees had been injured."The Del Sur network is in good shape," said Ivan Diaz-Molina, chairman of Del Sur. "Energysupply had been restored to 90 percent of the rural areas affected by the earthquake and 100percent of the urban areas as of last night. Power to our commercial and industrial customers hasbeen restored, and isolated residential areas still without power are expected to be back in servicelater today."As to rescue operations, Diaz-Molina said "We are coordinating with the [El Salvadoran] Army in rescue operations and evacuation efforts." PPL said it is sending a team of employees from its Santiago, Chile operations to assist Del Sur employees in rescue efforts. The company is also providing emergency lighting equipment so the rescue activities can continue 24 hours a day.
