LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Calpine to Develop 500 Megawatt Louisiana Plant
LCG, Jan. 29, 2001Calpine Corp. said Friday it had acquired from Cogentrix Corp. of North Carolina the development rights for a 500 megawatt merchant power plant to be built near Bogalusa, La.Construction of the $300 million Washington Parish Energy Center is expected to being "shortly," Calpine said, and commercial operation is penciled in for mid-2002.Diana Naylor Knox, a senior vice president of Calpine, said "We view Louisiana as a growth market, and this acquisition solidifies Calpine's position in the Louisiana wholesale market as well as the Southeastern Electricity Reliability Council."Calpine said the plant will use two natural gas combustion turbines in combined cycle with a single steam turbine to produce 490 megawatts of base load power and will have the ability to ramp up to 577 megawatts during periods of peak demand.Calpine said it will manage all aspects of project development including engineering and design, construction, fuel supply, operations and power marketing. The facility is expected to contribute more than $40 million in property taxes to Washington Parish over the life of the plant.
