South Carolina Utility Cuts Gas Rate 15.24 Percent
LCG, March 7, 2001--South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., the principal subsidiary of Scana Corp., said yesterday it has received approval from the South Carolina Public Service Commission to lower its natural gas customers bills by 15.24 percent.SCE&G said the new rate will go into effect with the first billing cycle this month, and a typical householder who uses 100 therms of gas will see his bill drop by around $20."We're pleased to be able to pass along lower gas prices to our customers, especially following several months of colder than normal winter weather," said Neville Lorick, president of SCE&G. "While it is extremely tough to predict changing natural gas commodity prices, if the current trendscontinue, we are hopeful we can continue to reduce costs to our gas customers." SCE&G said it also was able to credit its residential and commercial gas customers' bills on average an additional $23.00 in December and January through the company's "Weather Normalization Adjustment." The company is also making progress on a plan under which customers can pay a flat monthly rate to 12 months.
