El Paso Natural Gas Delays New Mexico Pipeline Test

LCG, March 15, 2001--El Paso Natural Gas Pipeline said yesterday it would delay a two-day test of its repaired South Mainline in New Mexico. Residue remaining in the pipeline must be removed before the test can be completed, a spokeswoman for the company said.

The pipeline rupture near Carlsbad, N.M. last August killing 12 members of two families who were camped nearby. It has been operating since under federal restrictions, reducing deliveries to California by 200 million cubic feet of gas per day.

"We are still cleaning the line and getting it ready for the test," the spokeswoman for the El PasoEnergy Corp. said. She did not have a date when twice-delayed test would be made.

The two-day inspection will temporarily cut gas throughput by another 335 million cubic feet per day.
