BG&E Cuts Some Slack as Disconnect Moratorium Ends

LCG, April 9, 2001The Maryland Public Service Commission's winter moratorium on service disconnects for low-income customers ended March 31, but Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. said it will cut its customers some slack to keep their service on.

"We know the end of the moratorium might cause more concern for our customers already in adifficult situation," says Frank O. Heintz, president of BG&E. "We want these customers to know wewill remain flexible in helping them find the best solution for their circumstances."

High natural gas prices have left some BG&E customers unable to stay current with their bills, the company said. The utility said it offers an option under which they pay an even monthly charge for service and it also provides guidance to customers seeking assistance from the Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs.

"We want to work with our customers to help find solutions to the winter's heating costs," said Heintz.
