LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

Michigan Grows Electric Power Supply
LCG, June 4, 2001Over the next seven years, demand for electric power in Michigan is expected to increase 9,000 megawatts, according to state officials, and until a year ago, little was being done to accommodate that growth.But in the past year, more than 20 new power plants have been proposed in the state, totaling 14,000 megawatts. Ten of those have been approved, with a combined capacity of 7,075 megawatts. One of the plants will begin commercial operation later this year, seven next year and five each in 2003 and 2004.Michigan utilities and regulators are assured, according to a report in yesterday's Detroit news, "that a California-style energy shortage is unlikely to occur here.""The biggest single reason we're seeing new projects was the passage of our restructuring act," said Gary Kitts, chief administrative officer of the Michigan Public Service Commission, referring to the June 2000 electric deregulation act that guarantees the ability of out-of-state companies to sell power into the local wholesale market.Anthony Earley Jr., chairman of DTE Energy, the parent holding company for Detroit Edison Co., is aware "We may be in a situation of an energy glut in three or four years," but he wasn't wringing his hands over the prospect. "That would likely mean lower rates for our residential and commercial customers," he told the News.Mirant Corp., the Atlanta based independent power producer, tabled plans to expand a California power plant that had been approved last week citing the state's "hostile business climate," but has just completed a 310 megawatt project in Zeeland, Mich."We are looking at two to four other projects in Michigan," a Mirant official said. "We definitely see a need for more capacity."
