LCG, September 12, 2025--Entergy announced yesterday that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build two efficient natural gas-fired power plants to support the region’s rapid growth. The combined electric generating capacity of the two facilities, the Legend Power Station and the Lone Star Power Station, will add over 1,200 MW to the Southeast Texas power grid to support new customer demand, increase reliability and lower costs for all customers. Both facilities are scheduled to commence operations by mid-2028.

LCG, September 4, 2025--Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced yesterday that phased construction has commenced on its 142-MW Appaloosa Solar Project, a utility-scale solar facility underway in southeastern Washington. The project is being built by Qcells EPC, who will serve as the module manufacturer and the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution provider. Construction is scheduled through 2026, and commercial operation is expected at the end of next year.

TVA Considering Options for Unfinished Nuke
LCG, July 5, 2001Tennessee Valley Authority's unfinished Bellefonte nuclear power plant in Hollywood, Ala., the nation's most recently abandoned atomic power project, may produce electricity yet.TVA, a taxpayer-owned utility managed by political appointees, has sunk more than $6 billion into Bellefonte, which has been mothballed since 1988 when the agency halted construction after 14 years of effort. It is the only unfinished twin-reactor plant in the United States that has not been scrapped by its owner.Earlier this week, Jack Bailey, vice president of engineering and technical services, was selected to lead a special project considering options for Bellefonte."Bellefonte has the potential to be a valuable, productive asset to the corporation," TVA Directors Skila Harris and Glen McCullough said in a joint statement. "Jack's experience makes him uniquely qualified to evaluate and review all options from all perspectives."TVA is still considering finishing the plant, and will be looking at options that would not jeopardize that possibility. Agency officials believe a large coal-fired plant could be built on the site, a prospect that could make environmentalists nervous.Last year, Dr. Stephen Smith, director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, pointedout that coal-burning plants in Tennessee contributed 352,000 tons of smog-forming nitrogen oxide, 775,000 tons of acid rain causing sulphur dioxide, 4,109 lbs. of mercury, and 103,633, 836 tons of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide into the air.A lot of the nitrogen oxide came from TVA's Chattanooga coal-burner, which is the worst industrial facility in the United States for spewing NOx. In 1996, the plant emitted 105,120 tons of the stuff.TVA also leads the nation when it comes to putting sulphur dioxide into the air. Its Cumberland Steam Plant emitted 346,171 tons of SO2 in 1996.TVA is also considering the Bellefonte site for a coal gasification project it would jointly develop with Texaco. That project would provide enough fuel for about 1,500 megawatts of gas-fired electric generation.
