Scana Forms Interstate Gas Pipeline Subsidiary

LCG, July 27, 2001Scana Corp. announced yesterday the formation of SCG Pipeline Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary that will engage in the transportation of natural gas in Georgia and South Carolina.

The new company will transport natural gas from interconnections with Southern Natural Gas Co. and Southern LNG's Elba Island liquefied natural gas import terminal near Savannah, Ga. The company said it is currently evaluating potential pipeline routes for an end point in Jasper County, S.C.

"Natural gas from the Elba facility will play an important role in the region by providing access to a new natural gas supply source to an economy with a growing demand for this product," said Berry Gibbes, SCG Pipeline president.

SCG Pipeline said it has reached an agreement with Scana Energy Marketing Inc. to transport 190,000 dekatherms per day of natural gas and will conduct an open season for other potential customers of the new system.

"SCG Pipeline and its access to Elba Island provide us with an opportunity to create additional natural gas infrastructure and to deliver supplies into the market in a very cost effective manner," Gibbes said.

The company said it would ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for certification this fall and expected the new pipeline to be in service by November 2003.
