LCG, Aug. 2, 2001Calpine Corp. it had agreed to pay Edison Mission Energy $35 million for the 50 percent equity interest it doesn't already own in a 240-megawatt combined-cycle cogeneration facility located in Gordonsville, Va.

Calpine, which acquired an initial fifty percent equity interest in the facility in 1997, said the transaction is expected to close later this summer, at which time Calpine will assume operations of the plant.

The Gordonsville plant provides electric power and steam to Virginia Electric & Power Co. and the Rapidan Service Authority under long-term contracts that expire in 2024, the company said.

"We are very pleased with the plant's performance to date, and we believe that we can further enhance its value through our direct ownership and operation of the facility," Alff said.
