PUC of Texas Approves Entergy Texas' Plans to Build Over 1,200 MW of Gas-Fired Capacity

LCG, September 12, 2025--Entergy announced yesterday that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build two efficient natural gas-fired power plants to support the region’s rapid growth. The combined electric generating capacity of the two facilities, the Legend Power Station and the Lone Star Power Station, will add over 1,200 MW to the Southeast Texas power grid to support new customer demand, increase reliability and lower costs for all customers. Both facilities are scheduled to commence operations by mid-2028.

Puget Sound Energy Starts Construction on 142-MW Appaloosa Solar Project in Washington

LCG, September 4, 2025--Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced yesterday that phased construction has commenced on its 142-MW Appaloosa Solar Project, a utility-scale solar facility underway in southeastern Washington. The project is being built by Qcells EPC, who will serve as the module manufacturer and the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution provider. Construction is scheduled through 2026, and commercial operation is expected at the end of next year.

Calpine Begins Building Another California Plant;On its Way to Owning 12,000 In-state Megawatts

LCG, Aug. 24, 2001--Calpine Corp. said yesterday that is has begun construction on its 750 megawatt Pastoria Energy Center 30 miles south of Bakersfield, Calif. at the southern end of California's Central Valley.

Calpine said the natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle facility will be complete by summer of 2003. As many as 800 workers will build the plant, which will have an operating staff of between 30 and 35 employees.

"Pastoria is the latest in a series of Calpine projects intended to provide near- and long-term solutions to the power crunch in the West," Jake Rudisill, a Calpine senior vice president. "We've achieved several milestones this summer and we are extremely pleased to be able to point to yet another."

Calpine pointed to the commissioning in July of the Sutter Energy Center near Sacramento and the Los Medanos Energy Center as evidence that its projects are bearing fruit. Los Medanos is the first new major power plant built in the San Francisco Bay Area in more than 30 years.

The company said it has 2,400 megawatts of generation on-line in California, 2.030 megawatts under construction and almost 3,300 megawatts under development. Calpine says it will have in operation 12,000 megawatts of generation in California.
