Duke Unit to Replace Steam Generators at Callaway Nuke

LCG, Nov. 2, 2001--A subsidiary of Duke Energy Corp. said yesterday it has been selected to replace the steam generators at the 1,235 megawatt Callaway nuclear power plant owned by Ameren Corp's Union Electric Co. subsidiary near Fulton, Mo.

Duke's Steam Generating Team Ltd. will provide project management, engineering, licensing, construction, quality assurance, support services and start-up testing for the steam generator replacement at the 16-year-old, Westinghouse-designed plant. The replacement will take place during a refueling outage in the fall of 2005.

Duke's SGT finds itself working for a lot of utilities other than the one that owns it. The unit was recently awarded a contract to replace steam generators at Xcel Energy's Prairie Island nuclear plant and has completed steam generator replacements for Consolidated Edison's Indian Point Unit 2, Wisconsin Electric Power Co.'s Point Beach Unit 2 and Florida Power & Light's St. Lucie Unit 1. The firm is currently under contract to replace steam generators at Constellation's Calvert Cliffs Units 1 and 2.

SGT also works for its parent. It is currently under contract to replace the steam generators at Duke Power's Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1, 2 and 3.

"SGT has emerged as the leading steam generator replacement team in the industry," said Bill Fox, president of the unit. "The experience and knowledge of SGT's professionals continue to deliver quality results while meeting our clients' scheduling, safety and financial goals for steam generator replacement."
