LCG, July 24, 2025--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the next steps in the Trump administration’s plan to accelerate the development of AI infrastructure by using Federal lands to lower energy costs and help power the global AI race, as previously outlined in President Trump’s Executive Orders on Accelerating Federal Permitting of Data Center Infrastructure, Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security, and Unleashing American Energy.

LCG, July 22, 2025--Enbridge Inc. (Enbridge) today announced that it has reached a final investment decision on the Clear Fork solar project located near San Antonio, Texas. Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta), has signed a long-term contract for all of the renewable power generated from the 600-MW project.

Calpine Buys Out Bechtel in NorCal Projects
LCG, Nov. 7, 2001--Calpine Corp. said yesterday it has acquired the 50 percent interest of partner Bechtel Enterprises in three power plant projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. Calpine paid $154 million in cash and assumed about $141 million in cash to add a little more than 1,000 megawatts of owned generation.That power isn't ready for delivery as yet. The three projects are:- The 880 megawatt Delta Energy Center in Pittsburg, in the northeast Bay Area near the mouth of the Sacramento River. The plant is under construction and is expected to begin commercial operation next spring.
- The 600 megawatt Metcalf Energy Center in south San Jose. The project was recently licensed by the California Energy Commission and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2003.
- The 600 megawatt Russell City Energy Center in Hayward, across the bay from Palo Alto. The project is under development and is currently being considered for licensing by the Energy Commission. If approved, Calpine hopes to have the plant on-line by the summer of 2004.
"Calpine intends to have 12,000 megawatts of clean, efficient generating capacity on line in the California market within the next five years," according to Rick Thomas, vice president for finance and development. "Today, our California portfolio includes approximately 9,800 megawatts of natural gas-fired and geothermal facilities in operation, under construction and in announced development."Bechtel isn't getting out of the power business in which it has played a major role since the mid-1940s. Doug Brown, vice president and manager of power development said "We intend to continue to play an active role in the California power generation market, by investing in the state's energy infrastructure, and helping them meet their growing energy and fuel supply needs."
