LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Aussie Plant Breakdowns Squeeze Victoria
LCG, Jan. 3, 2002--Equipment failures at the Loy Yang A and Yallourn power plants in the Australian state of Victoria last weekend have raised fears of looming blackouts or rationing, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported this morningThe threat comes as southeast Australia heads into its hottest part of summer, with predictions of all-time highs for power demand.Victorian Energy Minister Candy Broad pooh-poohed the talk of rationing, saying there was no immediate threat to the state's power supply. But industry sources warned a string of weekday temperatures topping 95F, after industries returned from the holiday break on Monday, would stretch supplies."Demand is highly vulnerable to change in temperature," said National Electricity Market Management Company spokesman Paul Price.One unit at Loy Yang is expected to be out of action until late March, but operators at Yallourn remain confident they can repair its damaged unit by January 20. But to compound problems, Loy Yang plans to shut another unit for six days of urgent maintenance from January 12.The Victorian government has warned some of the largest power users of possible rationing. Some, including Alcoa's aluminum smelters at Point Henry and Portland, and BHP Billiton's Western Port plant, say they are ready to wind back demand if asked by the government.
