Dominion Takes Over UI Standard Offer from Enron

LCG, Jan. 4, 2002--The United Illuminating Co. of New Haven, Conn. said yesterday it had reached agreement for Dominion Resources Inc. to supply UI's "standard offer" generation service needs through 2003.

Effective January 1, 2002, the contract replaces an agreement with Enron North America Corp. to supply standard offer services. The change was necessary to ensure the continued delivery of energy at stable prices for United Illuminating customers, in light of Enron's recent bankruptcy announcement. Enron's bankruptcy placed it in default of their contract with the local utility.

The contract with Dominion will allow United Illuminating to fulfill its obligation under Connecticut's 2000 electric restructuring law to provide standard offer service through December 31, 2003 to customers who do not elect an alternate energy supplier.

Anthony J. Vallillo, president of United Illuminating, said "This contract removes Enron as our supplier and replaces them with Dominion. The change to Dominion will be transparent to our customers. There will be no change in customer rates for the remainder of the standard offer period."
