SPP's Western Expansion Set for Implementation on April 1

LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

Entergy Estimates Customer Savings of $5B from "Fair Share Plus" Data Center Agreements

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

OPEC Pressures Russia on Oil Production

LCG, March 18, 2002-With a sluggish world demand for oil, OPEC is concerned that Russia, as the world's second largest oil exporter, will not limit its oil production.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) changed its forecast for growth in worldwide oil demand from 500,000 to 420,000 barrels per day, 0.55 percent of the world's total of 76 million barrels a day.

Russia promised to decrease its first quarter production by 150,000 barrels per day, although exports were reportedly up 940,000 barrels per day in February. OPEC has demanded that Russia continue limiting its oil production in the second quarter, but Russian officials do not want to lose market share or give up revenues that the struggling country needs. Experts say that Russia's mostly private industry may export more oil than reported even if the Russian government vows to limit production.

OPEC secretary general Ali Rodriguez and president Rilwanu Lukman could not convince Russian officials to devote themselves to future agreements with OPEC, although Russia avoided rejecting Opecs demands outright.
