PG&E Consultant Fees Increase
LCG, March 20, 2002-PG&E filed papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court saying its previous estimated costs were incorrect and much too low. Records show that PG&E withdrew $32 million to pay consultants last year, sometimes at rates over $600 an hour. However, the recently submitted court document shows that projected fees for creditors are between $120 and $150 million, more than four times what the utility says it has spent in its bankruptcy case so far. This money will go to professionals hired by parent company PGE Corporation, which has yet to submit its expenses to the court and previously refused to do so.The Utility has received intense criticism from many in the industry for its fees to lawyers and accountants.
