Jordan and Indonesia Work Together on Energy Projects

LCG, April 22, 2002-Officials from Jordan and Indonesia met to discuss oil, gas, electricity, and mineral resources projects.

According to the Jordanian Petra News Agency, Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Jordanian Energy Minister Mohammed Batayneh discussed cooperative endeavors in energy-related projects, including the Risheh gas field near the Iraq-Jordan border.

The Indonesian company Golden Spike plans to formalize a four-year contract with Jordan's National Petroleum Company, which generates about 12 percent of Jordan's electricity. The contract will include Indonesia in Jordan's development of the Risheh gas field; National Petroleum hopes to bring oil production to 150 million cubic feet per day by the end of the contract period.

Currently Indonesia, the world's fourth most populated country, produces 1.2 million barrels in crude oil per day and therefore has valuable oil exploration experience to contribute to Jordan's efforts.
