Russian Aluminum Company Invests in 3,000 MW Plant

LCG, July 22, 2002-OAO Russian Aluminum, also called Rusal, and Russian state electricity company RAO Unified Energy System (UES) will work together to build a Siberian hydroelectric plant.

The Boguchanskaya hydroelectric plant will be built in Krasnoyarsk with a $10 million investment from the aluminum company, although Rusal's possible holdings in the project have not been disclosed. UES holds 80 percent of Boguchanskaya.

UES and its subsidiaries have been signing agreements with other industry giants, including oil companies OAO Yukos and OAO Sibneft.
UES assets are being separated into generation, transmission, and distribution bodies as part of large-scale electricity market reform in Russia.
