Williams Keeps License and Will Sign New CA Contract

LCG, July 29, 2002-The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission decided not to revoke Williams Cos.'s power trading license, and California expects to rewrite a long-term contract with the company.

State officials had asked FERC to order the renegotiation of Williams' long-term contracts signed during the power crisis, when electricity prices were unreasonably high, and officials have also asked for a $9 billion refund from the company.

Williams is expected to sign an agreement addressing California's litigation and claims against Williams.

The state will not comment on the agreement until it has been signed.

On Friday, FERC decided not to revoke the energy company's electricity trading license. Earlier the license was threatened because FERC said that Williams did not completely address an order to make available trading information regarding electricity trades during the California crisis.
