LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Davis-Besse Repairs Increase in Cost and Duration
LCG, Oct. 7, 2002--Repairs underway at the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Ohio will require that the plant be out of service until early next year, and are expected to cost owner FirstEnergy more than $100 million above what was originally estimated.The cost of installing a new reactor head, estimated at between $55 million and $75 million, will remain the same, according to the company. This year's work necessary to bring the plant online will likely increase in cost by $65 million, while next year's follow-up maintenance is seen as incurring $50 million more in expenses than previous estimates.While the plant is out of service, FirstEnergy has a supply of energy to replace the nuclear plant's output, due to hedging. Of the repairs being performed, only the new reactor head will be capitalized. A leak of boric acid resulted in a hole within the protective reactor head.
