New President of California PUC Appointed

LCG, Dec. 31, 2002--Commissioner Michael Peevey was appointed by California Gov. Gray Davis as his choice to replace the current President of the California Public Utilities Commission, Loretta Lynch, according to spokesman Steve Maviglio.

In addition, Davis' Cabinet Secretary, Susan Kennedy, was named to the board, and would take the place of Henry Duque, who is scheduled to vacate his seat. With Duque's departure, Davis will have appointed all five members of the Commission board.

Peevey is formerly a president of Edison International and executive at Southern California Edison. He was also chief executive at TruePricing Inc., which used technology to track energy usage for large business customers and government institutions, from 1995 to 2000.

Legislators will need to vote on Davis' appointments, after the state's Senate members return to Sacramento on Jan. 6. It is not known yet when the appointments will be voted upon.
