CA Auto Fuel Price Investigation Yields No Manipulation

LCG, April 3, 2003California Governor Gray Davis ordered an investigation of the high cost of gas as prices spiked recently, to no result.

The California Energy Commission conducted a study of gas prices as the cost of gas went above $2 dollars a gallon.

According to Chairman William Keese, the price of crude oil and scattered refinery shutdowns were responsible for the high cost of gasoline.

According to the Commission, as the price of crude drops and as refineries go back to producing at full capacity, the price of gasoline is dropping a little, around a penny per gallon last week.

The commission did not find anything abnormal, although the study was conducted for only 15 days.

Meanwhile, the governors office noted that the first justification from the energy market players regarding the energy crisis of 2000/2001 was market forces. Governor Davis is not ready to lay the gasoline price investigation to rest yet.

Gasoline prices increased an average of $0.57/gallon in California between January 1 and March 15.
