Nuclear Plant Can Increase Output, Says NRC
LCG, May 12, 2003--The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has given its approval to Entergy Corp.'s request to boost the maximum capacity of the Pilgrim power plant, next to Plymouth, Massachusetts, by 10 megawatts. The approval was granted following assessments covering the nuclear plant's operations, instrumentation and control apparatus, accident probability, radiological effects, and changes to technical specifications, the NRC stated. "The NRC staff determined that the licensee could safely increase the power output of the reactor primarily through increased feedwater flow measurement," said a statement. The capacity will be raised to 680 megawatts by the month of June, supplying enough electricity for as many as 10,000 homes.
