Midwest Transmission Expansion Plan Receives ISO Backing

LCG, June 23, 2003-Key transmission expansion projects within the Midwest Independent System Operator (ISO) territory have been made part of a plan that would be implemented by transmission owners at a potential cost of $1.32 billion.

Examination of alternate expansion scenarios took into consideration eleven possible expansion plans, using four new generation investment scenarios. The Board of Directors for the Midwest ISO believes that reliability and lower prices will result from the plan's execution, by addressing new load growth and the need for reliability. The report issued detailed findings on 19 bottlenecks where congestion is pronounced or persistent, as well as ways to manage the congestion.

Jeff Webb, the ISO's director of transmission planning, said, "MTEP (Midwest ISO Transmission Expansion Plan) will help guide state regulators and other stakeholders in deciding which economic projects should go forward, and who the principal beneficiaries would be."
