LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

Appeals of FERC's Decisions on Western Energy Contracts Planned
LCG, June 27, 2003--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's ruling upholding certain power contracts signed during the western energy crisis will be appealed by the state power-buying agency and major western utilities, although the likelihood that such appeals will succeed does not appear significant.Companies selling power under long-term contracts said they are confident that an appeal before FERC will not result in a change in the regulatory agency's stance. The CEO and president of Sempra Energy, Stephen Baum, said that his company's position is supported by a prior ruling issued by the San Diego Superior Court. Besides California, Sierra Pacific Resources subsidiary Sierra Pacific Power Co., PacifiCorp, and Nevada Power Co. will file for rehearings, and will likely present their cases in court if FERC does not change its decisions.FERC and the utilities disagree on whether contracts signed during a time when efforts at manipulation were apparently taking place should stand. While FERC upheld the contracts this week, it also issued "show cause" orders to 60 companies and utilities concerning their behavior in the power marketplace during 2000 and 2001. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Ca., said that under the circumstances she found the rulings on contracts "incomprehensible." Sempra Energy Resources, one of the sellers to California's Department of Water Resources, said it might consider switching the terms of a contract for 1,900 megawatts over 10 years to a form that would allow the agency to pay for the quantity of power that it uses, rather than a pre-determined amount.
