LCG, July 2, 2003--The Zilkha Renewable Energy firm and Caurus Power, Inc. announced yesterday that they plan to install about 100 wind turbines producing up to 165 megawatts in Kittitas County, in the state of Washington, and have secured the rights to develop a 5,000-acre area. The project, called Wild Horse, would be the second in the county developed by Zilkha, which is also working on a 181-megawatt installation called "Kittitas Valley Wind Power Project." The output of Wild Horse would be sold to utilities in the Northwest."Everyone knows that Kittitas County is windy," according to Debbie Strand, who serves Kittitas County's economic development organization, Phoenix Group. Zilkha has already completed a number of studies on land use and wind conditions, leading Project Development Manager Chris Taylor to observe, "We're confident that we have chosen the truly prime windy lands here. Kittitas County's winds are among the very best in the Northwest." An application to the Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council is planned, with a projected date of operation in 2005.
