LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

European Power Outage Affects Nearly 4 Million
LCG, Sept. 26, 2003--Early Tuesday evening, southern Sweden and eastern Denmark experienced a blackout that was apparently caused by a failure on a transmission line, and which lasted several hours.Denmark's capital city of Copenhagen as well as an industrialized area of Sweden were affected by the outage, which was estimated to have affected almost four million people across the two countries. The line that failed crosses the border between Sweden and Denmark.The economic impact of the blackout was thought to be "very modest", according to an economist with Dankse Bank, Jesper Hansen, who was quoted in Dow Jones Newswires. While some pharmaceutical factories and other industrial facilities were forced to shut down, and nearly all businesses in Copenhagen closed, financial markets remained open, thanks to backup generators. Traffic congestion resulted on roadways, and airlines and rail traffic were temporarily disrupted until power was restored, first in Sweden and next in the islands of Denmark that had been impacted.
