LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

Alberta Minister Seizes on Russian Stance on Kyoto
LCG, Sept. 30, 2003--The Alberta Environment Minister Lorne Taylor found some accord with remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin that indicated some doubt as to whether the Russian government should ratify the Kyoto accord on climate policy.Russia represents 17 per cent of the emissions represented by possible signatories of Kyoto, while voting equivalent to 55 per cent of the emissions represented is required for the treaty to go into effect. This gives Russia the ability to derail the climate accord if it fails to ratify it. Taylor expressed the opposition of some Alberta industry representatives and government officials to what they see as economic fallout from Kyoto, given that Alberta depends heavily on energy resource extraction. According to Taylor, who spoke to the Edmonton Journal from the five-day World Cimate Change conference, Putin "very clearly said exactly what Alberta's been saying, we'd better understand the mechanisms and the effects on the economy before we rush forward with ratification."Taylor will discuss possible ways to reduce emissions without Kyoto when he meets with governors in energy-rich areas of Russia. Environmentalists, as well as Canadian Environment Minister David Anderson, voiced some confidence that Russia will vote to ratify the treaty, and attributed Putin's remarks that warmer temperatures "would not be scary, maybe it would be good," to political posturing before upcoming parliamentary elections. Putin said, "A decision will be taken when this work is finished."
