LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Madison Plant Construction Begins
LCG, Oct. 15, 2003--A 150-megawatt power plant that will be jointly owned by the utility Madison Gas and Electric Co. and the University of Wisconsin is officially under construction beginning today.The plant will provide power to the university and the city of Madison, as well as steam and chilled water to the UW-Madison campus. The facility will boost local generation, whereas currently 85 percent of area power needs are met through imports, according to MGE's Steve Kraus.Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle was scheduled to appear at a ceremony today, and to speak on streamlining the approval process and providing economic incentives for construction of more new power plants. The groups Friends of Responsible Energy (FORE) and Madison Physicians for Social Responsibility have voiced disapproval over the failure of MGE to incorporate $6 million worth of pollution control technology into the plant, which they say will result in an unnecessary airborne health hazard.
