LCG, Nov. 13, 2003--Over 600,000 power customers in the Midwest lost power after winds traveling up to 74 mph knocked down trees and power lines, propelled by a cold front moving east.

About 240,000 of those affected are in Michigan, or along the Great Lakes, where waves were observed at 12 to 15 feet. The front was expected to hit New York state today, while flooding in West Virginia resulted in one person being drowned after driving into a flooded creek.

Over 155,000 in Illinois, 15,000 in northern Indiana, 140,000 in Ohio, 37,000 in West Virginia, 12,000 in Pennsylvania, 12,000 in New Jersey and 6,000 in southeastern Wisconsin experienced power outages.

Winds suggesting the possibility of a tornado caused damage at a Rubbermaid plant, and injured seven people in Wooster, Ohio.
