LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Senators, State Attorneys General Oppose EPA Mercury Proposal
LCG, Apr. 2, 2004--A proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency for regulating mercury emissions through a cap-and-trade program was the focus of letters sent to the agency by forty-five Senators and 10 state attorneys general Thursday, requesting that the proposal be replaced by a stricter plan.The letters, which were sent separately, asserted that the plan would constitute violation of the Clean Air Act, and provide insufficient protection for children. Most of the attorneys general were from Northeast and mid-Atlantic states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont. Of the senators, seven were Republicans, including Arizona's John McCain, Maine's Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe, New Hampshire's Judd Gregg and John E. Sununu, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee.A statement was issued by EPA spokeswoman Cynthia Bergman, saying "the final rule will be defined by the availability of technology that has been adequately tested and available for industrywide deployment."
