Enron Will Sell Pipelines

LCG, May 21, 2004--Enron will sell a company it owns that has full or partial positions in pipelines in North America, a move that will leave Enron with only international pipeline assets once the deal is completed.

CrossCountry Energy Corp. was formed when North American and international pipelines were assigned to two distinct companies, after what Enron managers found to be lackluster bids to buy pipelines were submitted in late 2002. As part of the deal, NuCoastal LLC, run by Oscar Wyatt Jr. of Texas, will acquire CrossCountry for $1.8 billion.

According to Stephen Cooper, who became CEO to assist in Enron's bankruptcy reorganization and was quoted in the Associated Press, the sale "reflects a stronger market for quality, high-performing energy assets than we had seen two years ago." Before the transaction can go forward, it will require approval from U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Arthur Gonzalez in New York.
