LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

AmerenUE Plans New Peaking Facilities
LCG, July 15, 2004--AmerenUE plans to install new, natural gas-fired combustion turbines at its existing Venice Power Plant in Venice, Illinois, just north of St. Louis. The project plan submitted for air permits includes three combustion turbines totaling about of 560 MW. However, the immediate plan is to proceed with only two, 170 MW turbines. Construction on the project is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2004, with commencement of operations targeted for October 2005.The existing Venice Plant has a summer capacity of 73 MW. The plant suffered fire damage in August 2000. Two generators, with a combined capacity of 87 MW, were damaged. The remaining capacity was eventually returned to service and operated until it was retired at the end of 2002. The two new units will basically replace the capacity lost when the units were retired. The two new units, which can go from a cold start to full load in 30 minutes, are planned to provide peaking capacity. These units would be dedicated to serve Missouri customers if the Missouri Public Service Commission approves the transfer of AmerenUE-Illinois customers to AmerenCIPS. Without that approval, the units would serve both AmerenUEs Missouri and Illinois customers. The new generation does not count toward the 700 MW of new, regulated generation capacity the Missouri Public Service Commissions is requiring the utility to add by June 30, 2006 as part of the rate case settlement.
