LCG, September 12, 2025--Entergy announced yesterday that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build two efficient natural gas-fired power plants to support the region’s rapid growth. The combined electric generating capacity of the two facilities, the Legend Power Station and the Lone Star Power Station, will add over 1,200 MW to the Southeast Texas power grid to support new customer demand, increase reliability and lower costs for all customers. Both facilities are scheduled to commence operations by mid-2028.

LCG, September 4, 2025--Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced yesterday that phased construction has commenced on its 142-MW Appaloosa Solar Project, a utility-scale solar facility underway in southeastern Washington. The project is being built by Qcells EPC, who will serve as the module manufacturer and the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution provider. Construction is scheduled through 2026, and commercial operation is expected at the end of next year.

Gold Mines Attract New Generation in Nevada
LCG, July 27, 2004--Last week the Nevada Public Utilities Commission (Nevada PUC) approved a conditional permit for Barrick Goldstrike Mines, Inc. (Barrick) to build a 118 MW, natural gas-fired power plant in Storey County, Nevada to provide power for its Carlin Trend operations. The combined cycle plant, to be located about 10 miles east of Reno, is estimated to cost nearly $100 million and is scheduled to commence operations in September 2005.The Nevada PUC previously approved Barrick's request to opt out of the regulated power system owned by Sierra Pacific Power Co. That action was based on a stipulated agreement with the PUC staff, Sierra Pacific Power and the Nevada Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection.Another Nevada gold mine operator, Newmont Mining Corp., is threatening to build its own power plant to supply its operations, which are currently supplied by Sierra Pacific Power. Newmont plans to build a 200 MW, coal-fired plant in Northern Nevada given board approval, an air permit from Nevada officials and authorization from the PUC.The plant would be east of Battle Mountain and three miles north of Interstate 80 on Newmont's TS Ranch. Coal for the plant would come by rail from the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. The company plans to begin plant construction in early 2005 and complete it by the first half of 2007.
