Calpine Plans Project Expansion in Wisconsin

LCG, August 3, 2004--Wisconsin Public Service Corporation and Calpine have executed a contract that will lead to the expansion of Calpine's Fox Energy Center. Calpine currently is constructing a 305 MW plant to provide 235 MW to Wisconsin Public Service for deliveries beginning June 1, 2005. The new contract provides for an additional 235 MW, ten-year power sales commitment for capacity, energy and ancillary services. The deliveries are scheduled to begin on June 1, 2006, subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

The new, gas-fired, combined cycle plant is located in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. With the new agreement, Calpine will install another combustion turbine and related equipment to increase the total plant capacity to approximately 550 MW. Calpine expects to begin construction of this addition later this year, using a combustion turbine from its existing inventory. Calpine acquired the project last year from a subsidiary of MidAmerica Energy Holdings.
