Sempra Pursues Expansion of Baja LNG Terminal

LCG, July 15, 2005--Sempra Gobal, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, is planning an open season for additional capacity at its planned Energia Costa Azul LNG receipt terminal, located near Ensenada, Mexico. The project, which will initially be able to process 1 Bcf/day of liquefied natural gas (LNG), is fully subscribed and scheduled to commence operations early in 2008.

The project site is located about 14 miles north of Ensenada. After the LNG is regasified, pipelines would then transport the natural gas to local markets and California. The project is designed such that the processing capacity can be increased to 2.5 Bcf/day.

The sources of the natural gas supplies include the Tangguh LNG terminal project in Indonesia and Sakhalin Island off Russia's eastern coast. The Indonesian supplies are associated with a contract with BP and its Tangguh LNG partners, and the Sakhalin Island supplies are associated with a contract with Shell.
