PJM Files Reliability Pricing Model with FERC
LCG, September 1, 2005--PJM Interconnection (PJM) announced yesterday that it has filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) a new capacity pricing model to improve grid reliability and better ensure adequate electric supply. The Reliability Pricing Model (RPM) follows a multi-year, stakeholder process. The model is designed to signal the need for investment in new power supplies and to provide consistency that would create an environment more attractive to investors. Wholesale capacity prices may vary by location in order to incent new generation where it is needed relative to load locations and transmission constraints. Other key features in the model are designed to address demand side management and to incent new transmission infrastructure as an alternative to new generation.PJM, which has significantly expanded its service area over the past two years, now operates the power grid for all or parts of Delaware, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
