LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Calpine Receives Local Support for Proposed Bay Area Power Plant
LCG, October 13, 2005--Calpine Corporation's (Calpine) proposal to trade land with the City of Hayward for a site to develop a new, gas-fired power plant was approved unanimously by the City Council in a vote Tuesday night.The 600-MW project, known as the Russell City Energy Center, was proposed back in 2001, but California's energy crisis and Calpine's subsequent financial challenges put the project on hold. Now the energy outlook has changed, and California's thirst for electricity is growing. With the approval from the City Council, Calpine may trade 12 acres next to the city wastewater treatment plant for a 10-acres located nearby. The project, which would use water from the city's wastewater treatment plant for cooling, could be under construction by the summer 2007. Calpine must obtain financing and amend and seek approval of its 2002-approved license from the California Energy Commission (CEC). Winning local support for new power projects is an ever-growing challenge across the country, and Calpine's efforts included a planned $10 million contribution for a city library.
