Regional Cooperation Growing for Western Grid Improvements
LCG, March 10, 2006--Arizona Public Service Company (APS), National Grid USA and the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority (WIA) earlier this week executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together towards the planning and development of new electric transmission lines designed to carry more electric supplies from Wyoming to the growing load centers in Arizona and elswhere in the west.
The new MOU is associated with two previously announced projects: the TransWest Express Project proposed by APS in October 2005, and the Wyoming-West Transmission Study that was announced late last year by the WIA and National Grid. Both projects are focused on greater utilization of Wyoming's ample coal and wind potential to generate low-cost electricity for cities throughout the west. The MOU is designed to better coordinate the planning efforts of the three parties in order to more effectively develop regional transmission expansion plans in a timely manner.
